Pedagogical Approach
A communicative approach has been taken to language learning, with content and theme-based tasks and activities that are relevant to the child's interests and daily life experiences.
Speakers of different languages and writing systems
The program takes into consideration the needs of speakers of different languages and writing systems. Special attention is given to the sound system and phonic skills, as well as the writing of the Roman alphabet.
Integration of Skills
An integrated approach is used to develop the language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. These skills are taught according to the natural sequence of language acquisition.
In the initial stages of the program, new language is introduced orally in meaningful contexts. Afterwards it is reinforced with reading, writing tasks, and voice recording activities. Independent study and self-assessment allow children to learn at their own pace, and assess their own progress through the CD-ROM score screens. Vocabulary and grammar will be reused and recycled throughout the program to ensure a smooth transition from recognition (understanding) to production (using). The two review packs provide opportunities to review and reinforce language points, ensuring a thorough understanding and basic competence. Online examinations, approved by Heriot-Watt University, allow parents and children to review learning progress in a formal examination environment and identify weaker areas that require additional practice.
The Pronunciation Enhancement Kit allows your child to practice proper pronunciation.
Multi-sensory activities
In order to cater to different learning styles, a variety of multi-sensory activities will be provided. Language learning is most effective when children are actively involved in the learning process and are able to use the language to do things. As such, the program will provide a variety of "hands on" activities, such as using clay to form letters of the alphabet and clay objects that reinforce the new vocabulary.
Computer skills
The program guides learners through the development of basic and essential computer skills, introducing users to e-mail and the Internet.
